Understanding All-For-Reef Dosing
All-For-Reef is an ultra-concentrated, mineral-balanced solution designed to provide all the essential elements required by a modern reef aquarium. Unlike traditional two-part systems, it provides Calcium, Magnesium, Alkalinity, and trace elements (Strontium, Iodine, etc.) in a single, easy-to-use bottle.
How to Use This Calculator
There are two primary ways to determine your dosing needs:
- Initial Starting Dose: If you are just starting with All-For-Reef, the manufacturer suggests starting with 5ml per 100 Liters (26 US gal) of system volume. This is a safe starting point for most tanks.
- Consumption Based: This is the most accurate method for established tanks. Measure your Alkalinity (dKH) at the same time for two consecutive days without dosing. The difference is your daily drop. Our calculator uses the math that 1ml of AFR per 100L of water raises Alkalinity by 0.1 dKH.
Important Dosing Safety Rules
Because All-For-Reef uses organic calcium salts (calcium formate), the minerals are not released immediately via chemical reaction, but rather through biological activity by bacteria. Keep these rules in mind:
| Metric | Recommendation |
|---|---|
| Max Daily Dose | 25 ml per 100 Liters (26 Gallons) |
| Primary Indicator | Use Alkalinity (dKH) to monitor and adjust |
| Dosing Frequency | Spread across 24 hours via dosing pump |
Calculation Example
If you have a 50-gallon reef tank (approx. 190 liters) and you notice your dKH drops by 0.4 every day:
- Current Volume: 190 Liters.
- Daily Drop: 0.4 dKH.
- Formula: (0.4 drop / 0.1 adjustment) * (190L / 100L) = 4 * 1.9 = 7.6ml per day.
Pro Tip: Always test your Alkalinity every few days when starting a new dosing regimen. Once the levels stabilize, you can reduce testing to once a week. Because AFR relies on bacterial breakdown, it can take a few days for the full effect of a dose change to show up on your test kit.
