Bra Cup Size Calculator
Finding the right bra size is crucial for comfort, support, and the appearance of your clothing. This calculator helps you determine your approximate bra band and cup size based on two simple measurements. Remember, bra sizing can vary between brands, so this serves as a great starting point.
Measure snugly around your rib cage, directly under your bust.
Measure loosely around the fullest part of your bust.

Understanding Bra Sizing
Bra sizing can often feel like a mystery, but it's based on a relatively straightforward principle: the difference between your band measurement and your bust measurement. The goal is to find a bra that fits snugly around your rib cage (the band) and comfortably encases your breast tissue (the cup).
How to Measure Correctly:
- Underbust Measurement (Band Size): Stand upright and wrap a soft measuring tape directly under your bust, keeping it level all the way around your back. Exhale fully to get the smallest measurement. This measurement, often rounded up to the nearest even number, determines your band size. For example, if you measure 31 inches, your band size would typically be 32.
- Bust Measurement (Cup Size): While still standing, measure around the fullest part of your bust. Make sure the tape is not too tight and is level across your back. This measurement helps determine your cup size when compared to your band size.
The Calculation Explained:
Our calculator uses a common US sizing method. First, your underbust measurement is adjusted to determine your band size (usually an even number). Then, the difference between your bust measurement and your calculated band size dictates your cup letter. Each inch of difference typically corresponds to a different cup size:
- Less than 1 inch difference: AA
- 1 inch difference: A
- 2 inch difference: B
- 3 inch difference: C
- 4 inch difference: D
- 5 inch difference: DD (E)
- 6 inch difference: DDD (F)
- And so on…
Why the Right Fit Matters:
A well-fitting bra offers numerous benefits:
- Comfort: No digging straps, gaping cups, or uncomfortable tightness.
- Support: Proper support reduces back and shoulder pain, especially for those with larger busts.
- Appearance: Clothes will drape better, and your silhouette will be smoother.
- Breast Health: While not directly preventing health issues, good support can reduce discomfort during physical activity.
Important Considerations:
This calculator provides an excellent starting point, but it's important to remember that bra sizing is not universal. Different brands may have slightly different interpretations of sizes, and your body shape can also influence how a bra fits. It's always recommended to try on bras and adjust based on comfort and fit. Your size can also change due to weight fluctuations, pregnancy, or age, so re-measuring periodically is a good practice.
Example Scenarios:
Let's look at a few examples using the calculator's logic:
- Scenario 1:
- Underbust Measurement: 30 inches
- Bust Measurement: 35 inches
- Calculation: Band size becomes 30. Bust (35) – Band (30) = 5 inches difference.
- Estimated Bra Size: 30DD
- Scenario 2:
- Underbust Measurement: 31 inches
- Bust Measurement: 36 inches
- Calculation: Band size becomes 32 (31 rounded up to nearest even). Bust (36) – Band (32) = 4 inches difference.
- Estimated Bra Size: 32D
- Scenario 3:
- Underbust Measurement: 34.5 inches
- Bust Measurement: 37 inches
- Calculation: Band size becomes 34 (34.5 rounded to 35, then to 34 if using nearest even, or 34 if using round down to even). For our calculator, 34.5 rounds to 35, then becomes 36. Let's re-evaluate the band logic for clarity.
Revised Band Logic: If underbust is 34.5, `Math.round(34.5)` is 35. `35 % 2 !== 0` is true, so `35 + 1 = 36`. Band is 36.
Bust (37) – Band (36) = 1 inch difference. - Estimated Bra Size: 36A
