• Daily Energy Requirement (DER): This is the RER multiplied by a factor that accounts for your dog's activity level, age, and other specific conditions. For example, a normal adult dog might have a multiplier of 1.6, while a growing puppy might have a multiplier of 2.5.

Once the DER is determined, the calculator divides this by the caloric density of your dog's food (kcal/cup) to tell you approximately how many cups to feed per day.
