Your Grade Point Average (GPA) is a crucial metric in your academic journey. It provides a standardized way to measure your overall academic performance, reflecting the average of the grades you've earned in all your courses, weighted by their respective credit hours.
A strong GPA is essential for various reasons: it can impact your eligibility for scholarships, admission to graduate programs, academic honors, and even future employment opportunities. Understanding how your GPA is calculated and regularly tracking it can help you set academic goals and monitor your progress.
How is GPA Calculated?
The GPA is typically calculated on a 4.0 scale, where letter grades are converted into numerical "grade points." Each course's grade points are then multiplied by its credit hours, and these "weighted grade points" are summed up. Finally, this sum is divided by the total number of credit hours attempted.
Standard 4.0 Grading Scale Used in This Calculator:
A+ / A = 4.0
A- = 3.7
B+ = 3.3
B = 3.0
B- = 2.7
C+ = 2.3
C = 2.0
C- = 1.7
D+ = 1.3
D = 1.0
F = 0.0
The formula is:
GPA = (Sum of [Grade Point x Credits for each course]) / (Total Sum of Credits)
