Bra Size Calculator: Find Your Perfect Fit
Finding a well-fitting bra is crucial for comfort, support, and even your posture. Many women wear the wrong bra size, leading to discomfort, back pain, and an unflattering silhouette. Our Bra Size Calculator helps you estimate your correct bra size based on two simple measurements.
How to Measure for Your Bra Size
For the most accurate results, wear a non-padded bra or no bra at all. Stand upright and use a soft measuring tape.
- Underbust Measurement (Band Size): Wrap the measuring tape snugly around your rib cage, directly under your bust. Ensure the tape is level all the way around your back. Breathe out to get the smallest measurement. This measurement helps determine your band size.
- Overbust Measurement (Bust Size): Wrap the measuring tape loosely around the fullest part of your bust. Make sure the tape is level and not too tight, allowing for natural breast tissue. This measurement helps determine your cup size.
Enter these two measurements into the calculator, select your unit (inches or centimeters), and click "Calculate Bra Size."
Understanding Bra Sizes: Band and Cup
A bra size consists of two parts: a number (the band size) and a letter (the cup size).
- Band Size: This number (e.g., 32, 34, 36) corresponds to the circumference around your rib cage, just under your bust. It provides the primary support for your breasts. Our calculator rounds your underbust measurement to the nearest even number to determine your band size, which is standard in US sizing.
- Cup Size: This letter (e.g., A, B, C, D) represents the difference between your overbust and underbust measurements. A larger difference indicates a larger cup size. Each inch of difference typically corresponds to an increase in cup letter (e.g., 1 inch = A, 2 inches = B, etc.).
Important Considerations & Tips for a Perfect Fit
While this calculator provides a great starting point, bra sizing can be complex due to variations between brands and body shapes. Here are some tips:
- Try On Bras: The best way to find your perfect fit is to try on bras. Use the calculated size as your starting point, but be prepared to try a size up or down in the band or cup.
- Sister Sizes: If your calculated size doesn't feel quite right, consider sister sizes. For example, a 34C has the same cup volume as a 32D and a 36B. If the band is too tight, go up a band size and down a cup size (e.g., from 34C to 36B). If the band is too loose, go down a band size and up a cup size (e.g., from 34C to 32D).
- Check the Band: The band should be snug and level across your back, not riding up. It should provide about 80% of the support. You should be able to fit two fingers comfortably under the band.
- Check the Cups: Your breasts should fill the cups without gaping or overflowing at the top or sides. The center gore (the part between the cups) should lie flat against your sternum.
- Adjust Straps: Straps should be supportive but not dig into your shoulders. They provide about 10-20% of the support.
- When to Remeasure: Your bra size can change due to weight fluctuations, pregnancy, breastfeeding, or aging. It's a good idea to remeasure periodically.
Disclaimer: This calculator provides an estimated bra size based on common US sizing conventions. Bra sizing can vary significantly between brands and styles. Always use this as a guide and prioritize trying on bras for the best fit.
