- Consider ceiling height: For ceilings taller than 8 feet, you may need to increase the chandelier diameter. A general guideline is to add 1 inch to the diameter for every foot of ceiling height above 8 feet.
For example, in a room that is 15 feet long and 20 feet wide with an 8-foot ceiling, the calculation would be: (15 + 20) / 2 = 17.5 inches. If the ceiling height was 10 feet, you'd add 2 inches (for the 2 feet above 8 feet), resulting in a suggested diameter of 19.5 inches.
