Example GPA Calculation
Let's say a Collin College student completes the following courses in a semester:
- ENGL 1301 (3 credit hours) with a grade of A (4.0 points) -> 3 * 4.0 = 12.0 Quality Points
- MATH 1314 (3 credit hours) with a grade of B (3.0 points) -> 3 * 3.0 = 9.0 Quality Points
- HIST 1301 (3 credit hours) with a grade of A (4.0 points) -> 3 * 4.0 = 12.0 Quality Points
- BIOL 1406 (4 credit hours) with a grade of C (2.0 points) -> 4 * 2.0 = 8.0 Quality Points
Step 1: Calculate Total Credit Hours
3 + 3 + 3 + 4 = 13 Credit Hours
Step 2: Calculate Total Quality Points
12.0 + 9.0 + 12.0 + 8.0 = 41.0 Quality Points
Step 3: Calculate Semester GPA
41.0 Quality Points / 13 Credit Hours = 3.15 GPA
