Hourly Pay Calculator Florida

Florida Hourly Pay Calculator

Use this calculator to estimate your gross weekly, bi-weekly, monthly, and annual pay based on your hourly rate and hours worked in Florida. It also considers Florida's minimum wage and standard overtime rules.

Understanding Your Hourly Pay in Florida

Florida's employment laws, while often aligning with federal standards, have specific nuances, especially concerning minimum wage. This calculator helps you estimate your gross earnings based on your hourly rate, regular hours, and any overtime hours worked.

Florida Minimum Wage

Florida has its own state minimum wage, which is often higher than the federal minimum wage. As of September 30, 2023, Florida's minimum wage increased to $12.00 per hour. It is set to increase by $1.00 each year until it reaches $15.00 per hour on September 30, 2026. Employers in Florida are legally required to pay at least this minimum rate.

  • September 30, 2023: $12.00 per hour
  • September 30, 2024: $13.00 per hour
  • September 30, 2025: $14.00 per hour
  • September 30, 2026: $15.00 per hour

Our calculator allows you to input the current or projected Florida minimum wage to ensure your base hourly rate meets the legal requirements.

Overtime Rules in Florida

In Florida, overtime pay is generally governed by the federal Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). This means that non-exempt employees must be paid 1.5 times their regular rate of pay for all hours worked over 40 in a single workweek. There are specific exemptions for certain types of employees (e.g., executive, administrative, professional employees), but for most hourly workers, the 1.5x rule applies.

Our calculator automatically applies the 1.5x multiplier for any overtime hours you enter.

How the Calculator Works

  1. Base Hourly Rate: Enter your agreed-upon hourly wage.
  2. Regular Hours per Week: Input the number of hours you typically work at your standard rate, up to 40 hours.
  3. Overtime Hours per Week: Enter any hours you expect to work beyond 40 in a week. These will be calculated at 1.5 times your base hourly rate.
  4. Florida Minimum Wage: This field allows you to specify the current or future Florida minimum wage for comparison. The calculator will alert you if your base hourly rate falls below this amount.

The calculator then provides estimates for your gross pay (before taxes and deductions) on a weekly, bi-weekly, monthly, and annual basis.

Important Considerations

  • Gross Pay vs. Net Pay: The results from this calculator represent your gross pay. This is your earnings before any deductions for federal income tax, state income tax (Florida has no state income tax), FICA (Social Security and Medicare), health insurance premiums, retirement contributions, or other withholdings. Your actual take-home pay (net pay) will be lower.
  • Exempt vs. Non-Exempt: This calculator is primarily for non-exempt employees who are eligible for overtime pay. Exempt employees (e.g., salaried professionals meeting specific criteria) are typically not paid overtime.
  • Specific Pay Periods: While the calculator provides common pay period estimates, your employer's specific pay schedule (e.g., semi-monthly) might result in slightly different per-period amounts due to varying days in a month.

Example Calculation

Let's say an employee in Florida earns a base hourly rate of $18.00, works 40 regular hours, and 5 overtime hours in a week. The current Florida minimum wage is $12.00.

  • Regular Pay: $18.00/hour * 40 hours = $720.00
  • Overtime Rate: $18.00/hour * 1.5 = $27.00/hour
  • Overtime Pay: $27.00/hour * 5 hours = $135.00
  • Gross Weekly Pay: $720.00 + $135.00 = $855.00
  • Gross Bi-Weekly Pay: $855.00 * 2 = $1,710.00
  • Gross Monthly Pay: $855.00 * (52 / 12) = $3,705.00 (approx.)
  • Gross Annual Pay: $855.00 * 52 = $44,460.00

Since $18.00 is greater than the $12.00 Florida minimum wage, the pay meets the legal requirement.
