Medi-Share is a health care sharing ministry where members share each other's eligible medical bills. It's not health insurance, but rather a community of believers who voluntarily share financial burdens related to healthcare. This calculator helps you understand the financial aspects of being a Medi-Share member.

Key Terms Explained:

• Monthly Share Amount: This is the amount you commit to paying each month to the Medi-Share community. It's similar to a premium but is a voluntary contribution. This amount varies based on factors like age, family size, and the Annual Household Portion (AHP) you choose.
• Annual Household Portion (AHP): The AHP is the amount your household is responsible for paying towards eligible medical bills each year before the Medi-Share community begins to share your bills. It functions similarly to a deductible in traditional insurance plans. Common AHP options range from $3,000 to $12,000.
• Eligible Medical Bills: These are medical expenses that meet Medi-Share's guidelines for sharing. Generally, these include doctor visits, hospital stays, prescriptions, and other medical services that are deemed medically necessary and align with the program's biblical principles. Pre-existing conditions and certain lifestyle choices may affect eligibility.

How Medi-Share Works:

When you incur an eligible medical bill, you are responsible for paying up to your chosen Annual Household Portion (AHP). Once your household has met its AHP for the year, the Medi-Share community will then share the remaining eligible medical bills. Your monthly share contributions are pooled and distributed to members with eligible bills.

Using the Calculator:

To use the Medi-Share Cost Estimator, input the following:

1. Your Chosen Monthly Share Amount: Enter the monthly amount you expect to pay based on your Medi-Share plan selection.
2. Your Chosen Annual Household Portion (AHP): Input the AHP level you have selected for your household.
3. Estimated Annual Eligible Medical Bills: Provide an estimate of the total eligible medical expenses you anticipate incurring in a year. This helps the calculator determine how much of your AHP you might meet and how much could be shared.

The calculator will then provide an estimated breakdown of your total annual costs, including your monthly shares, the portion of your AHP you would pay, and the amount that would be shared by the Medi-Share community.

Example Scenario:

Let's say a family has a Monthly Share Amount of $250 and an Annual Household Portion (AHP) of $5,000. They estimate their Annual Eligible Medical Bills to be $7,000.

• Total Annual Monthly Shares: $250/month * 12 months = $3,000
• Out-of-Pocket Before Sharing (AHP Met): Since their estimated bills ($7,000) exceed their AHP ($5,000), they would pay the full AHP of $5,000.
• Amount Shared by Medi-Share: $7,000 (Eligible Bills) – $5,000 (AHP) = $2,000 would be shared by Medi-Share.
• Total Annual Cost to Member: $3,000 (Monthly Shares) + $5,000 (AHP) = $8,000
