Planetary Dominant Calculator
Discover which planet holds the most influence in your astrological birth chart. While a full astrological analysis is complex, this calculator helps you identify your dominant planet(s) by allowing you to input a "strength score" for each based on common astrological principles. The planet(s) with the highest score are considered your dominant influence.
How to Determine Your Planet's Strength Score:
To use this calculator effectively, you'll need to assign a strength score (0-100) to each planet based on its position and aspects in your birth chart. Consider the following factors for each planet:
- Angularity (0-30 points): Planets close to the Ascendant (AC), Descendant (DC), Midheaven (MC), or Imum Coeli (IC) are considered very strong. The closer to an angle, the higher the score.
- Essential Dignity (0-20 points): Planets in their domicile (ruling sign) or exaltation are strong. Planets in detriment or fall are weaker.
- Aspects (0-20 points): Planets making many strong aspects (especially conjunctions, squares, oppositions, trines, sextiles) to personal planets (Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars) or angles gain strength.
- House Rulership (0-15 points): The ruler of your Ascendant (chart ruler) is often a dominant planet. Planets ruling prominent houses (1st, 10th, 7th, 4th) also gain influence.
- Dispositorship (0-10 points): A planet that is the final dispositor (rules the sign of all other planets) can be very strong.
- Retrograde/Direct Motion (0-5 points): Direct motion generally adds a slight boost to strength.
Sum these points for each planet to get its individual strength score. If you're unsure, use an online chart calculator to identify these factors, or consult an astrologer.
